Auroras above a very calm lake early into the northern lights season. The usually pale and wide-spread purple bundled for a few moments into a strong 'flame'. Captured near Oulu, Finland.

Never give up too early. During this night I was at this lake with a friend. We waited a long time with not much going on in the sky and were almost ready to head home. Suddenly this incredible aurora show started out of nowhere, last for about 10 minutes and disappeared again. It's nights like this which keep me many other nights from going home early.
